A tale of 18-year-old Yokomichi Yonosuke, who moves from his rural home in Nagasaki prefecture to attend college in Tokyo, where he befriends a high-class call girl and the daughter of a rich industrialist
A two, almost three hours long movie, a long but unique film i will say, but i never got bored through the movie. A movie that keep you smiling, this movie has the magical power dragging you with various emotions. A normal story, very normal and plain i will say. Just a story of a guy and his friends, no superpower, no messy relationship, no coke, no sexy chicks, no boobs, no handsome guys. A story set in 80’s, the fashion, people, cars and the whole sets have nostalgia to it and the cinematography is brilliant. You can experience the true 80’s Japan.
Yonosuke, a funny, sincere, loyal and innocent man. He has the ability to make the people around him smile. 🙂 From Nagasaki to Tokyo, he study in the college, make friends, join clubs, do part-time, help around. Well, that is basically the whole movie about. He is a ordinary boy but he is warm, just like the candle light in the dark and raining night.
The samba club! Yonosuke and his new friends, Ippei Kuramochi and Yui Akutsu joined the Samba club. How i wish my school was that fun in my time.
Yusuke Kato, the typical cool guy in the gangs. Always act mysterious, have some dark secrets, clever, popular type of guy. He is a gay, and living in a high class apartment. Yonosuke always go to his place for aircond. He admits he is a gay in the park and expected Yonosuke will stay away from him. However, Yonosuke don’t seen it like a big deal and befriend with him like normal.
He mets his first love? A modern, pretty big sister. She was a social butterfly, party babe and earn living from man. She knows how to treat the guys and clever enough to make them go away when she had enough from them. She then became a deejay and reports a news regarding the dead of Yonosuke in radio station. Erm, yea, Yonosuke is dead.(This movie did not follow timeline but mix with the past and presents. )
Of course, a babe like her will not accept the poor Yonosuke. So, the normal Yonosuke continue his normal school life, until he met Shoko chan, the super cute girl.
OMG! This girl is darn cute! The character of the girl could easily be annoying but Yoriko Yoshitaka manages to take the role perfectly. She is so cute and innocent in the movie. Her smile makes me smile, her laugh makes me laugh, her loves for Yonosuke is innocent and sincere. You just can’t hate this girl.
She hides behind the curtain when she confess her loves for Yonosuke.
They celebrates their first Christmas. Under the snow, Shoko wants Yonosuke to kiss her.
Shoko hurts her legs and needed to stay in hospital. Yonosuke takes her our from wards and send her home.Their love story is not perfect. They broke up and pursue their path separately.
Erm, this movie is interesting and heart warming even thought the main character, Yonosuke was dead. It will make you think back your school life, your friends and the old time of you. Those wonderful time in school, happy memories with friends, crazy stuff you ever did with your friends. Do you still remember the silly promises with your friends? Friendship forever? and stuff like that? Do you still keep in touch with those friends now? I am lucky i still keep in touch with the my primary school friends. After the movie, i make a small gathering with them for no reason. 🙂 Maybe i just want to make the promise come true, friendship forever.
